Kick-Butt Activities at Congress for Youth and Youth-Types

As our National Congress in Vancouver, Washington gets closer, plans are being made to have this be an amazing event and gathering for everyone, including the younger contingent. During the first two kejiwaan days (leaving Tuesday morning July 1, and returning Wednesday evening July 2) there is going to be a full-on camping trip for youth 11 and up (younger kids are welcome with adult supervision present). Details about where the camping will be are to be determined, but rest assured it will be somewhere fun and gorgeous, led by people who are responsible and awesome. We also have planned a "green" outreach project: an "ivy pull" project on Thursday morning to help the local park service.

During the business portion of the congress the goal and deep intention is to have a multi-generational element within the activities.

Think sports (ultimate Frisbee, soccer, football, ping-pong, etc.), drama-art-dance activities, and lots of space for chilling out and doing the Subud stand-by including massages, deep conversations, laughing hard, and playing chess-cards-board games. Last time at this venue we were also able to get in a hike on Mt. St. Helens and a whitewater rafting trip.

All of these activities will be available and decided on at the congress depending on interest and spontaneity. What do you want to see happen? What will you bring? How can you participate and add to this over-all theme of reconnection, community, and grace? We invite any adult (define that for yourself...) to interact and participate in this multi-generational concept as you feel moved to.

For the pre-teen and "true youth" group there will be childcare available throughout the business portion (at a very reasonable price), and a co-op childcare space for the kejiwaan portion where parents and other adults can arrange trades.

We have a gigantic community room available that will have many supplies for art activities, games, music, dancing - whatever. (Register each child you are bringing at $10 per day per child.)

WHAT WE NEED MOST IS YOU!!! We invite, implore, ask you all to consider volunteering in some way with the youth of Subud at this congress. We need childcare providers and organizers, camp-out volunteers, "mini-workshop" activity facilitators, sports organizers, dramatists, and overall fun people to be involved. We are happy to plug you in depending on your availability, large or small. This congress will be amazing because of you!

Sulfiati is in charge of the scheduling and logistics. She will be arriving as coordinator on Monday night June 30). The cost of the program is $10 per day per child. All of us working together will make this a wonderful, inspiring event for the little ones and the youth as well as the adults. We already have a few who have offered help, one for the campout and one for a hike on Mt. St. Helens.
