Oh such stories we can tell!

Subud is YOU, and we love to tell each other our experiences, be they deep or high, silly or serious!
Come and be a part of the storytelling! We're not PLANNING this... no agenda... Your host or hostess will help keep it moving along, so grab a cuppa coffee and come on along!

NEEDED FOR EACH SESSION: Someone with a tape recorder.
If that could be you, contact Melinda at subudusa@subudusa.org

Calling all Grantwriters!

A Subud Grantwriter's Network is in formation, with a twofold mission:

1)  to partner grantwriters and learners with Susila Dharma programs, when there is mutual interest;
2)  to partner grantwriters and learners with each other, as a support network (and keeping in touch, just for fun!).

All are invited to attend a 2-part Grantwriter's Network workshop at the Subud USA National Congress, July 4th, from 4-6 pm, and July 5th from 10 am to 12 noon, both in the SD Ballroom, Discovery C.

If you are a grantwriter, or are learning the field, and would like to be part of this network, please contact Melissa at mregionalsecretary@gmail.com or drop-in at the congress workshop. (Interested observers and hang-outers are welcome too!)

THIS WORKSHOP COULD BE SEXY

If your group could make $100,000 next year, wouldn’t that be sexy?  Well, we're not saying you WILL make that much, but if you don’t come to this workshop at the National Congress, you won’t know what others will!

Guaranteed, you will learn something. There’s too much knowledge around the country about how to run a successful Subud house, including how to make money renting it out, for you not to gain some key insights into what makes sense, what doesn’t and how can you keep your non-profit status intact.

So come, all ye Subud house managers, rental coordinators, group chairs and wannabes. This is a real chance to share information and come away with tools to put to work at your Subud House.

Items to be considered include:

1. Marketing Techniques – What Works and What Doesn't.
2. Documents You Can't Afford to Be Without.
3. Accounting for Revenue Activities
4. Who's In Charge and How do You Manage the Manager?
5. What's In Store For Us in the Future?
6. How Can We Make This Workshop Sexy?

Love and Best Wishes. See you there. Stay tuned for more information.

THREE GREEN ACTIVITIES AT OUR NATIONAL CONGRESS!

1. HOW GREEN IS OUR SUBUD HOUSE?

SES-USA is now sponsoring "green activities" within the Subud community, encouraging us to look at our personal lives, our Subud houses and our businesses, in terms of living in a healthy and "green" fashion.

The GREEN SUBUD HOUSE workshop is brought to you by Sharif Harris, and Marston Gregory.

We will address such issues as:

What issues can we consider in our efforts to "become more green"?
How can we make our Subud houses more energy efficient?
What can we do to be less dependent on an oil based economy?
What can be done to save money as we do needed repairs, and become more green at the same time?

Your workshop leaders:

Marston Gregory - since the 1970's, beginning in Germany, Building Biology (Bau-biologie) has studied the relationship between buildings and human health. It is the purpose of Building Biology and the Building Biology Environmental Consultant to apply this wealth of specialized knowledge to construction, or remediation, of homes and workplaces.

Sharif Haris has taken many "green" courses, and even organized a few.  For the past 20 years he has been interested in building and living more green;12 years as a member of CASBA Calif Straw Builders Assoc.; helped build a straw bale community center at a Habitat for Humanity village in Tecate Mexico and then helped in building straw bale homes for 5 families in San Diego.

He and his wife Sulfiati have purchased 10 acres near Badger CA where they are now putting in roads and a well to start a small eco & straw bale village to share with like-minded friends with similar dreams. They will be updating their web site http://EarthPodHomes.com as new developments take place.

2. AN IVY PULL – A FAMILY GREEN ACTIVITY at the National Congress – SAVING TREES!
Co-sponsored by SES and SYA

In cooperation with the Vancouver Parks & Rec Dept, we are offering an environmentally cool activity at the National Congress! This is technically a Youth/Child program activity but adults are very welcome to join in.
This will be either July 2nd or July 3rd.  It will take about 3 hours, and will be a 10-15 minute drive away from the hotel, in a forested park.
ACTIVITY: English Ivy has become a plague. It climbs up trees, puts feelers through the bark and drinks the tree sap and kills the trees.
SAVE THOSE TREES!  Our job: Use clippers to clip the ivy, and pull the ivy off the trees.
We will be near a shelter and the Parks Dept will provide a snack.  This will happen rain or shine, so if you expect to take part, bring a lightweight rain coat or poncho, and some ratty old clothes and shoes/boots!

3. HOW GREEN IS OUR CONGRESS HOTEL?

SES-USA is sponsoring some "Green Activities" at the National Congress as part of the SES program.
Our "green hotel" is an inspiration! - Get the Behind the Scenes tour!

http://www.subudusa.org/SUSACongress08/Tourism08.html

You will have a chance to take a "behind the scene tour" of the hotel, to see what their composting system is like, and see the otherwise invisible aspects of the property which make the hotel so "green".
Learn about: General composting; General recycling; Use of gray water; Alternative energy: solar energy use, wind energy use; Cleaning products; Food service: left over food use; food-soiled paper trash - what happens to it; Food: do you buy locally?

As more activities are scheduled, we will post them here.
